I was most flattered to be asked, once again, to be a judge at the Miss Liverpool contest last week. This year I was sharing the judging panel alongside other well knowns such as Dean Sullivan who you may know better as Jimmy Corkhill from the good old days of Brookside, and also this very interesting young man who owns the brand new airline FlyPink.
This is a great concept of travel, he has three pink Boeing planes and will be providing free manicures and other beauty stuff, along with pink Champagne, and fabulous food from a top chef. Apparently, it will be cheaper than our other local orange coloured planes! It's aimed at women going on shopping trips to the likes of Paris or Milan, but I'll let you know more as I find out!
So anyway, the event was held at the Liverpool Olympia and had about 30 girls competing for the title of Miss Liverpool. The winner automatically goes through to the Miss England contest, and the winner of that will represent England in the next Miss World competition, televised to billions!
Each girl had to parade the catwalk in swim wear, and then in evening wear, whilst also showing us their own special talent for a couple of minutes. This ranged from a bit of singing, dancing and even some flower arranging and ear piercing!! Not sure that last one counts as a talent!
The event did drag on somewhat, as it didn't finish till 1.30am! That was after the scrap between two girls at the bar (no I didn't get involved!) and the usual "It's a fix!" conversations between some judges and inebriated mothers of contestants.
But, the winner came through smiling, and in my humble opinion, deserved to win. Congratulations to Christine Martin, and good luck at the Miss England contest later this year. (I wonder if I'll be invited?!)
What do you think of beauty pageants? Are they worth your time, or do you think they should be scrapped? I'd love to hear your opinions!

Adam with winner Christine.
(She's the one on the right!)
